The CTU (Chicago Teacher Union) supports the teachers and wants a brand new contract. But the government and the CTU can not agree on their budget. The teachers want CPS to be able to pay them. Over the last two years their salary has gone down. It would be fair for it to go up instead. On Tuesday, CPS announced some painful pension deductions for teachers and $100 million in new budget cuts, which could include layoffs. They are saying that approximately 1,000 teachers are to be laid off. I do not believe this is fair, the teacher deserve a better pay and a job. From a teachers perspective, they believe that Rahm Emmanuel should not be controlling the schools pays and budgets. They also believe that the State should just give the city money to fund for the school. This is why Rahm Emmanuel should not be in charge and why things were better from before. |
